And I'm so waiting for the summer to be over! Being at home with my mum is just draining the life (and motivation to do anything) out of me. Luckily, I get to move into my new apartment at uni in a little over two weeks. And with my girlfriend! Ahh, the warm fuzzy feelings. How naice.
In other news, I just got my 13 piece kitchen knife set in the mail. Just in time for the lots of yummy food for the school year, I hope.

I think the biggest thing is to market to the right audience. If you're only good at doing realistic stuff, then don't try to do some anime/manga on the side. Vice versa too. On the jobs boards, I often see people saying "hey I do so-and-so style, but I can also do something-something completely different". I guess maybe for smaller commissions/clients that might work, but as far as I've heard from teachers/professionals, try to stick to what you do best.
Always try to get better. You can set out to try and get commissions now and focus all your time on getting new clients, but your level of pay/job/client will only be as good as your skill as an artist. Make sure you're still giving time to bettering yourself.
And look around google for small companies/groups/magazines to work with, not just sites like Deviantart or Craigslist. Don't do work for free, unless the publicity is good.
I think that's all I've got for now. Good luck man.
